These are socks I made for Keith in January. I’m wayyyyyyyy behind in posting things since Zach took control of our lives and our hearts.
***Austermann Step – Peat (05)***
On April 17, 2010, Keith ran the Purdue University Cancer Center Challenge 5K. This was his first 5K – next he will run a half marathon and probably then a marathon. Go Keith!!! His goal was to finish in the top 100. He was #95 out of 1,330 runners/walkers. Goal met! His time was 22:51. This is Keith – per usual with the smile – on the way to the run…….
This is Keith before the run…….
………..and this is Keith crossing the finish line!!!
This is the banner Keith signed. All of the runners sign the banner and it will hang at next year’s run.
Mark, Justin and I went to the run to cheer Keith on. I cried when the run started (surprise!). We were all so proud of him. He’s now training for the half marathon, which is in October.
I’m here world!! Here’s how I started my journey. I scared everybody by deciding I wanted out early. Here are the doctors trying to save me at Saint Anthony Memorial Hospital in Michigan City.
Here’s a picture of Mommy and Daddy after I was born. Look how happy they are to have me.
From there, I was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in South Bend because they have a really nice NICU. Mommy and Daddy missed me so they got to talk to me on Skype.
Memorial Hospital decided I needed a really good cardiologist, so they sent me on my first helicopter ride. I wasn’t even one day old and I got to ride in a helicopter. The helicopter took me to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
Look at all this crap they have me hooked up to. I’m still cute as a button though.
Daddy was so sad. He was worried about me and was missing Mommy because she was still in Michigan City. He wanted to be in both places at once.
They let Mommy out of the Michigan City Hospital so she could come see me and Daddy. Isn’t she a pretty Mommy? See that blanket I’m laying on – the blue one? Mommy made that for me – it’s the first blanket she ever crocheted.
This is my little hand saying HELLO WORLD!
Here is a picture of us as a family – this is Daddy, Mommy and ME!!!
Hey – guess what? I didn’t open my eyes for a few days but look…………I am opening them for Mommy and Daddy now.
Mommy and Daddy – I love you!!!
ME!!!! Yes, Happy Birthday to me – even though my birthday was December 22. My parents had Mark and I over for dinner. Corey and Danielle came too. I thought we were there just for dinner and dessert but then my parents disappeared and came back out with this beautiful pumpkin bread. Dad made the pumpkin bread (topped with pecans – yummy). He then cut it and arranged it beautifully and Mom topped it with the candle (zero years – I’ll take it).
Why a birthday party on February 27 when my birthday was December 22? My parents got me Amazon gift cards for my birthday and Christmas and they got misplaced so I didn’t get them for my birthday and Christmas. I told Mom “no big deal” – I don’t need gifts anyway. She found them and my parents did this little surprise party to give me my gift cards. Awwwww. And then here’s the double awwwwww – Sammy – not great pics because it was dark and I was using my iPhone – but this is me holding my cake and Sammy on the floor wishing he could have a piece. He’s adorable.
It was a great surprise – I couldn’t figure out whose birthday we were celebrating when everybody starting singing “Happy Birthday”. Thanks Mom and Dad!!!!
Thorpe – what’s not to love? I love this pattern and I love this yarn. This is my second Thorpe – this one is for Justin for his birthday. He picked out the yarn at Joann’s (on sale 2/$5.00 – nice!). The yarn is Deborah Norville Serenity Chunky and the color is Seven Seas. Gorgeous. The pattern doesn’t call for a ball on the top but we all decided we like the ball. I added a ball to mine also. Danielle is getting a Thorpe for her birthday too – hers is nearly done.
This is a little of what we did on Justin’s birthday party weekend. We all went shopping and ended up in the baby clothes department at Meijer. Fun fun. Here’s Keith and Corey looking for baby clothes for Zachary.
And here are Corey and Danielle picking out some outfits.
January 7, 2010
Who better than I? Grandma always used to say that. I don’t think Grandma really did all that much for herself but she always said it to me – so yah, let’s all do something for ourselves. We’re just as important as all the people we take care of. This I made for myself after a brutal two-hour shoveling session during the first big snow storm of the year. I LOVE it. I don’t look great in a hat but it is very effective – very warm – very soft. The pattern is http://throughtheloops.typepad.com/Thorpe.pdf and the yarn is Deborah Norville Serenity Chunky – the color is Golden.
Did I mention that I LOVE THIS HAT?
Update March 2, 2010: When I made Justin’s Thorpe, I added a pom to the top. I liked it so much I added a pom to mine too. Here’s a pic of mine with the pom added…..
Ahhh….much better.
